The Anglican rosary is one of many gifts from our most loving and generous God that serve as aids for prayer. It uses a series of knots or beads as a guide through repeated prayers. Prayer ropes and beads and similar methods have been used for centuries by Christians as well as by people of other faith traditions.

No form of rosary or prayer rope is better or holier than another. The choice is personal, most often reflecting the call of the Spirit to move deeper into prayer through a method that helps to meet individual needs. What gives any rosary or prayer rope its value is its use as an instrument of Prayer. God, in overflowing generosity, provides many possible entryways into that place where we become able to open ourselves to Christ's loving, forgiving, transfiguring presence.

Preparing to Pray the Anglican Rosary

One of the great gifts and graces of the Anglican rosary is its portability and appropriateness for any time or place. However, it is helpful to plan a regular time and place of quiet solitude where you are comfortable and will be uninterrupted. Many pray the rosary before saying one of the services of the Divine Office or before meditation, such as Lectio Divina. It is important to find and protect a few minutes in your day for quiet prayer with the rosary. Prepare to pray by finding a comfortable position to pray the rosary: Sitting or kneeling; or walking while praying is also a good discipline. Try to quiet your mind by setting aside the cares of your world and focus on God and his great gifts. When you are relaxed and quiet, you will be ready to pray.
