Prayers for Those Who are Journeying with Others Who are Suffering or Struggling

For Those Called to Bear Another's Burden
Lord, you told us that by helping to bear the burden of our brothers and sisters, we fulfill your righteous law. And in serving others we see the face of the suffering Christ. Anoint our lips to bring words of hope and solace. Bless our prayers and presence to be your healing balm. Grant us the courage not to shrink from entering into the struggles of our dearly beloved brother/sister. Rather grant us your grace and compassion to be your healing agent to him/her. And in your time, deliver him/her from his/her present affliction so that we together might give you thanks for your deliverance. In your holy Name we pray. Amen.

A Blessing for the Sick
Lord Jesus, when you were on earth, they brought the sick to you and you healed them all. Today we ask you to bless all those in sickness, in weakness and in pain; Those who are blind and who cannot see the light of the sun; the beauty of the world, or the faces of their friends; Those who are deaf and cannot hear the voices which speak to them; Those who are helpless and who must lie in bed while others go in and out. Bless all such. Those whose minds have lost their reason; Those who are so nervous that they cannot cope with life; Those who worry about everything. Bless all such. Those who must face life under some handicap; Those whose weakness means that they must always be careful; Those who are lame and maimed and cannot enter into any of the strenuous activities or pleasures of life. Bless all such. Grant that we in our health and strength may never find those who are weak and handicapped a nuisance, but that we may always do and give all that we can to help them, and to make life easier for them. Amen.
